DREAM

What is the Dream Program?

The DREAM program is a lifestyle program designed especially for teens and adults, who have the desire to lose weight, become more active, eat better, and/or achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Who can join the Dream program?

The program includes anyone who is a teenager or adult and has the desire and drive to live a healthier life.

Do you have a program for children?

Of course we do!  Just ask us about PACE our healthy lifestyles program for children.  It is like our DREAM program but designed especially for children ages 5 and up.

How much does it cost?

Nothing!  That is just one of the great things about this program.  This is a service provided by the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department.

What the DREAM Program is NOT!

The DREAM Program is NOT a diet.  This is a program designed to bring about a change in your lifestyle.  It is to help you eat better and be more active.

What does Dream stand for?

DREAM stands for the important parts of the program which are:

                D iet
                    R ecord
                        E xercise/

                     A ctivity

M onitor

What do I have to do if I join the program?

We will be supplying you with a food log, a walking log, and a pedometer. You will be expected to keep track of everything you eat in your food log.  You will also be expected to keep an activity log by wearing your pedometer or by recording an activity of your choice and keeping track of when you do it.  Each month we will set up an appointment for you to be weighed and to have your food log reviewed, as well as your walking/ activity log.

Why have a program like this?

According to the CDC, two-thirds of the population of the United States is overweight.  West Virginia is ranked the third most obese state with 27.6% of our state’s population and fourth in the number of obese and overweight people.  We lead the nation in cases of diabetes and arthritis.  We are second only to Mississippi in cases of high blood pressure.  Obesity can result in a lower quality of life as well as many health risks, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and can increase the chances of some types of cancer.  Being overweight or obese can be mainly attributed to a diet high in fat and sugar and the lack of adequate exercise or meaningful activity.  DREAM is designed to help motivate people to eat better and become more active.
